The Workstudy Program

The Journalism, Communication and New Media Workstudy program is an excellent opportunity for students who are looking to broaden their understanding of the field. Furthermore, students are also paid for their time spent participating in the program. This financial incentive makes the position even more valuable.

Students participating in the program will assist the JCNM support staff and faculty in maintaining, organizing and distributing lab equipment. As a result, Students will become familiar with handling a variety of photographic, video, and technical equipment. Participants will also help maintain the cleanliness of lab areas and equipment.

Workstudy students will learn how to assist in moderating and creating content on the EDR WordPress website. This will include creating short blog posts, videos, updating pages, etc. These tasks will help to maintain the quality of the site, while also exposing students to different aspects of media.

Participants will work a maximum of 8-hours per week in this position. Studying and completing course work during downtime is encouraged. As a result, this creates a flexible, low-pressure environment that encourages academic success.

Workstudy Prequisites:

  • Have to be a full time student at Thompson Rivers University.
  • Have to be a Canadian citizen or have permant residencey.
  • Maintain an adequate academic standing (minimum of current 2.00 GPA).
  • Demonstrate financial need through proof of bursary or student loan application.
  • Maximum employment of one Workstudy program at a time.

This is open to all interested, eligible students at TRU within the JCNM program. Workstudy provides some experience and understanding of various forms of technical equipment and software applications that are commonplace in the media industry. This is a valuable opportunity to learn, earn money, and build your resume while at TRU.
